"Jugendstil" (Art Nouveau) Villa built between 1912-1914 in the town of Sonnefeld near the City of Coburg, in the Oberfranken region of Bavaria.
The Villa is built over five storeys, consisting of a basement (Keller) of 6 rooms 3 flats as living accommodation each with four bedrooms and a huge loft space.
The Entrance floor ( Erdgeschoss) is reached by five steps from the main entrance door. It has a rear conservatory (Winter Garten) with access to the rear garden.
To the front of the entrance floor is the Lounge-living room with sliding doors in between.
A small study (Erker) with a magnificent original Stained glass semi-circular window 2m wide x 1.5m high, depicting a cherub in the middle section enjoying the fruits of life from a wicker basket (owner's factory manufactured products made out of wicker ). The left panel shows the view of River Rhine and the famous Rheinstein castle whereas the right panel depicts the scene of grapes and wine with a pavillion in the back ground. The window adorns the frontage of the Villa overlooking Dr. Knauer Strasse to the front.
The entrance floor apartment has four bedrooms and a kitchen, two bathrooms and a hallway (Diele) that runs the full length of the flat.
First floor apartment (Erste Obergeschoss) is a replica of the entrance floor with lovely stained glass windows to the front and to the side.
Second floor ( II. Obergeschoss) is a slightly smaller apartment without a conservatory but a small annex room attached to it.
The high ceilinged Roof and the Loft which comprises the corner round tower of the Villa, is an empty space with original floorboards.
There are 50 original windows and 32 original doors with original door furniture.
External dimensions' of the Villa is 10m x 15m and the plot of land it occupies including the garden is 20m x 32m.
The Sandstone ( sandstein) used in the construction of the Villa is of grade 1 (the highest quality ) and the stonemasons have carved bas-relief figures on the sandstone to the south and west facade of the building in the form of cornucopia and faces to ward off evil spirits away from the house.
To the West side of the house is the main entrance door and above the door is the date of construction and the initials of the Wicker factory owner Georg Loesch (G.L. 1913) are carved.
Above the door a magnificent stained glass Window 1.5 m wide x 2.5 m high provides the light into the four storey high stairwell. The design of the window again depicts the owners business of wicker baskets.
The balustrade has a hand carved wooden post which shows a scary face of a king to ward off evils spirits from entering the house.
The western facade facing Schutzen street has the two faces carved on both sides of the middle gable which are supposed to protect the house from evil spirits.
The southern front facade facing the main road has as the main feature the semi-circular stained glass window and above lies a bas relief cornucopia and flowers carved out of sandstone. Similar bas relief carving of floral design also decorates the top of the second floor windows.
The upper gable to the front towards east, is decorated with two peacocks and a wicker basket to bring luck to the business.
