Villa Loesch Renovation Years (2014-2016)

We enclosed several photos of the renovations that took place throughout the building. We were lucky in the sense that the Structure of the building was solid and no major repair work was necessary.

We decided that individual heating systems for each apartment would be the best along with all necessary decorations. There were more than fifty windows and thirty doors that had to be painted. However again the wood used was of such excellent quality that even after hundred year of use all the doors and the windows shut properly all their hinges worked perfectly and even the door handles and locks were in excellent order.

The old single bathroom was made into two bathrooms and modernised but the physical shape of the toilets were maintained.

Every bit of original wall painting, ceiling painting, door and wall features were preserved. The rotten wooden tiles of the corner tower had to be removed and renewed with wooden tiles brought in from Austria, 5000 of them.

The damage to stained glass windows were repaired by a specialist firm we found in a similar named town of Sonneberg.

Our apartment was furnished with memorabilia and artifacts of the "Jugendstil" days which we shipped across from U.K. and designed to the great taste of my colleague Jan.

House warming was organised during the renovation days and all fourteen trades and tradesmen which were involved in the renovation works were invited for a quick celebration.

As any other old listed building, continuous renovation and care will be an ongoing procedure for many years to come. We always consider ourselves as the custodians of such character buildings rather than the owners. However we are also sure that by tender loving care the “ Jugendstil “ Villa will give pleasure to many more generations after us and inspire them with the architectural features of the yesteryear.
